Find peace between steep mountains, midnight sun and wild nature.
A warm welcome to the island of contrasts
Outside, the weather is raging and the sky is constantly changing from dark gray to blue-gray. It's a stark contrast to the green mountains towering above you, the highest with a layer of fresh snow on top. By the sea, the fishermen's huts cling to the fishing villages - just as they have done for centuries and the boats are safely moored before the storm. Perhaps it's not surprising that Lofoteners are known for "standing his ground". Here, you don't walk with your head bowed to the north wind. If you look up, you can feel the elements whipping against your face.
The sea can also be motionless. When the sun shines around the clock, the distinction between night and day is erased. In those moments, the hustle and bustle of everyday life does not exist. When you encounter great nature, you also come face to face with yourself. It can be overwhelming. That's when it's good to find a warm haven. At May's, you'll find warmth and laughter, as well as a break from the enormous surroundings that tower outside. Quite simply, peace and quiet to digest, so that the impressions have time to stick and live on in you long after you've returned home. At May's, you get a home in Lofoten, no matter where you come from.
May's Apartments
Our apartments are suitable for those who want to live in modern surroundings with proximity to the sea and mountain views. We offer different types of apartments that are all designed to enjoy your time indoors. The focus is on quality, design and local arts and crafts. The studio apartments have kitchens and bathrooms and are ideal for solo travelers or couples. If you're traveling as a family or with friends, the two-storey apartments have a combined kitchen/living room, bathroom and two bedrooms.
Maybua
Maybua represents traditional Lofoten and is suitable for those traveling as a family or with friends. Located right on the water's edge, Maybua is built according to the same principles as the old fishermen's cabins where they lived and rowed from. Here you can get a sense of the life the fishermen lived during the intense Lofoten fishing season, without having to compromise on modern comforts. The cabin has a rustic style with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a large kitchen where it becomes extra cozy if you fire up the wood stove.
Discover our paradise
Our mighty surroundings can provide great experiences. We hope you will take the time to experience and get to know our paradise. Reine and Lofoten have many offers. These often vary with the seasons. We know most of the suppliers in the area, as they are our friends and neighbors. You can take a trip up to Reinebringen to enjoy the beautiful view of Reine, kayak to the Reinefjord and Lofotodden National Park or take a boat trip to one of the world's strongest maelstroms, Moskstraumen. We'll be happy to advise you and help you find the experience you're looking for.
Lofoten has many stories about the people who live here. Stories of families who have lived on the islands out here in the sea for generations. The sea has provided livelihoods, food and wealth, and forms part of our shared history that we want to share with our guests.
One of these stories belongs to the Sæthre and Reine family. Fishing and tourism have together formed the basis for May and Jørn, with their children Marlene and Christer, to be able to do as the generations before - to live and work in Lofoten. Jørn has always had the sea and the boat as his workplace. At home in Reine, May has created the family business Circle K Reine. Together with their children, they have created the accommodation May's.
Our history
The family wants to give you as a guest a feeling of coming home, but with a more modern expression than Lofoten traditionally offers. To a place that provides tranquillity and the opportunity to digest the impressions of the powerful surroundings. At May's, you get quality design and balanced material choices in combination with local art and craftsmanship, as well as a small selection of products from local producers. Welcome to May's!
Accountability
At May's we are passionate about our local community and that it should be good to live here. We are members of Destination Lofoten and Vest-Lofoten Næringsforening, and we believe that it is important that we stand together to get the development we want. That is why we have been the initiators of starting a local business network that will work on developing new offers for visitors, but also take the lead in contributing to better visitor management of our area.
For us it is important that our guests are aware of our values, remembering that both people and protected animals and plants live here. Therefore, we encourage you to behave in a respectful manner. Take care of the nature that we love so much. In this way, we contribute together to preserving and ensuring sustainable management of our local community.
As part of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, we are proud to be Environmental Lighthouse certified.
